Non-traditional schooling opinions?

Nurses General Nursing

i am seriously considering nursing but the waiting lists are 2 and 3 years at the community college and it also requires algebra  what are some opinions on "non traditional" schools like this one ? have any of you worked with rn's that have attended this type of school and what do you think about the quality of the education?

thanks!

Doesn't matter whether the school requires you to take algebra, you'll still have to use the basics for med calc.

I know a nurse manager or two who would be very leary of a program like that. Where would you do you clinicals? Does this program have contracts with hospitals in your area? Do they screen their clinical instructors? There is a lot unanswered here.

I'd be leery of this also. Their website says, "Earning an Associate Degree in Nursing through an accredited institution provides countless career options." Yet, I cannot find any documentation that they are an accredited school. In fact, their statement does not make the claim that they are accredited, just that getting an ADN through an accredited school would be good. Check this site for a directory of accredited nursing schools: http://www.nlnac.org/

I too would be leery since it does not show proof of begin accredited, Regent is a good online school, but u have to be an LPN first. But i know many who attained thier ADN or BSN online.

That company is simply a publisher selling programs to take the Excelsior college (formerly Regents) exams. Excelsior is a fully accredited program, but you are better off going through the college directly at http://www.excelsior.edu You do have to be a currently licensed health care professional in a variety of fields to qualify for admission. Some states require you to be an LPN first. I am doing this program now, and while it is much more flexible than a traditiona program, it is very expensive and you have to be completely self motivated. Good Luck.
