My first Job....

Where should I apply for my first job to get the most experience? I would like to work in the ICU or the ER, but feel I need to get some experience. Just wanted some other comments and maybe some fun real life experiences.

Have no idea as to where you are currently living or which city that you are interested in....................................next, do you want to go straight into a specialty area or work in med/surg first?

These are things that you need to decide...................... :balloons:

I graduated May '03 and started a job in July on a GMF/Resp. unit. We had vents, etc and trauma step down. I got great experience but the unit itself was toxic -- I moved on after six months to the ER, which is what I really wanted to do. I went to a completely different facility, but the change in attitude was so worth it. I love my job, even with the growing pains I'm experiencing.

Some people go straight into the specialty areas -- it's a long orientation. If I were to do it over again I might do telemetry first, then the ER. ER is tough to get the hang of if you don't have any experience at all. JMO.

Good luck.
