mandatory professional organization membership

we have a class debate on topic: should it be mandatory for nurses to belong to their state nurses association. I need some advise from both side. Any body has any ideas, any suggests and recommandations, I would love to hear. Thanks.

My opinion is that it should be encouraged but not mandatory. The nurse who does not want to join won't even read the information sent much less participate. Maybe that nurse is not the one you want in the organization anyway. Of course the other side is that this nurse needs education and encouragement too.

I belong to three nursing organizations.
