LVN...Returning to work after 2 1/2 years

Nurses General Nursing

Hi, I am an LVN liscensed in the state of Texas. My liscense is currently active but I haven't worked (next month will be 2 yrs). I had stayed home caring for my son since he was born. My previous experience has been almost 2 yrs. of nursing. 1 year in a hospital and 1 1/2 years doing home health nursing. I worked both of these jobs at the same time. So total nursing experience would be 1 1/2 ys. My question is "Do you think I will have a problem getting hired back at a home health agency"?:uhoh3: The Texas Board of Nursing states that I don't need a refresher course unless I've been out of work for 4yrs or more. Like I said it's only been 2 for me. I am in California at the moment, but plan on returning back to work next May when we move back to Texas. I understand that I probably won't be able to get back in the hospital where I was, I'd rather do home health anyway. If anyone is a home health director or knows lots of info on this subject and can answer my questions that would be great! Thanks!

I don't think you are going to have a problem, but make sure you have at least three references, and most important review your nursing books as a refresher practice your skills with a doll or someone just so that you are able to recall them faster, review side effect and med. calculations and so on. I am also an LPN and been out of work for three months because of military reasons, and I am noticing a lot of jobs are now been posted on line and with nurses recruiters. good luck!!!
