I was wondering how many nurses carry individual insurance policies. I have heard many do and I was hoping someone could give me some insight. I do not even know where to begin when looking for insurance and what type of coverage should I purchase. I would appreciate any advice.

I was actually thinking of posting the same question! It has been suggested to me several times that I need malpractice over and above what the hospital covers me for, but I have no idea where to look or how much I need.

Heloo C, and Laura,
You can get individual insurance, info from "AJN" and "RN" magazines. Or contact the ANA. I know in the magazine they have applications for you to send in. I hope this helps have a great day guys!

I always carried Liability Insurance until I was called to do a deposition once. One of the 1st questions our lawyers asked was
"Do you carry liability insurance?" I was the only one of the group of us who did. I really had nothing to do with the case;my name was just on the chart. The lawyers were relieved when we were not asked. This impressed me enough that I dropped my insurance. However, I have since wondered if I did the right thing.
