ICU Stepdown

I was just wondering what a typical patient is like in the ICU stepdown. I know that they are less serious than ICU patients, but need more monitoring than a med/surg patient, but I was wondering if anyone could give me more specific examples.

Thanks

When I worked stepdown we had a good mix of everything. We were the designated pedi-trauma unit in my hospital so we got the kids (youngest was 12) that didn't go to Childrens. We were also the CF floor. We had a good mix of everything else. We had stable vent patients, traumas, COPD, CHF, DM, lots of cardiac stuff and post-ops, detoxes. Pretty much anything actually...

Thanks that sounds cool. What is is the typical pt ratio for stepdown. How serious are the pts compared to med/surg
