I Am Only One Call Away

Nursing is my passion. So call me a nurse because I am only one call way. I am a super nurse, working tirelessly to aid my patients to achieve independence.

While I was younger, I see a nurse in scrub all smiles and I am filled with admiration, I never knew they had to go through a whole lot every second, minute, hour, shift, day, week and year making sure they are just only one call away. The one call away for assistance, the one call away for response, the one call away for advocacy, the one call away for reassurance. Observing strictly to professional ethics of showing empathy even when sympathy calls. Trying to hold that tears from a dying patient and relations.

I am only one call away in readiness to duly explain procedures in understandable terms to my patients. Getting my stuff ready for a procedure and performing the procedure acutely without bringing in personal issues into play. I am only one call away, when you are weak; I will be strong, when you are asleep; I will be awake, when you are upset; I am calm and when you are down; I will be up.

I am only one call away from that touch, not just a touch, but a therapeutic one. You are so special to me, because you are under my care, I need you to be strong and stay independent just as your family is concerned too. I am only one call away, making sure your medications are been administered, giving you comfort, taking care of your hygienic needs, and advocating for your nutritional and spiritual needs.

I will be there when you ring the call bell even when you don't really need anything. (lol). Take it easy for I am just a step away from your call. You think I don't get tired or upset? "Hehe" . I do at times especially when the shift gets so long. But never to worry about me, my supervisors would take care of it. My creator saw me through school of nursing just for your sake. So I am going to see you through this difficult phase of your life. I am only one call away to be your voice when you could not speak, your eyes when you could not see, your strength when you were so weak.

I am only one call away improvising for what is not available just to make sure that procedure is carried out on you. You see me everywhere in the facility and a thought comes to you- "He is working for his money". (Hehe) I know I am earning a living but if making money was the intention, I would not have been a nurse, because nurses are not the highest paid. Nursing is my passion and that is why I am here ; only one call away to take care of you.

I am not ashamed of what I do. I am not ashamed of helping and assisting you, I am not ashamed of advocating for you, I am not ashamed of the not so good looks on your face. I am not tired of providing answers to your numerous questions and those of your relatives. I am not tired of helping with the wheel chair. I am not tired of assisting with the urinals, sputum mugs and bed pans, not tired of making your beds, not tired of changing the infusions, not tired of having that discussion with you; come on.! Tell me, I am your nurse, confidentiality is guaranteed.

I was born to be a nurse. A nurse as a helper, a nurse as a teacher, a nurse as an advocate, a nurse as a listener and a nurse as a super hero. I love nursing and that is why I am only one call away to perform my nursing roles. I would not ask for anything, but for you to have pity on me by adhering to clinical advices and treatment regimen, so I do not get to see you in this condition again. Be fine and know that I am only one call away.
