Hurst Review vs. ATI

Nurses General Nursing

Hi there-I am looking for any responses, opinions, or otherwise from anyone who is familiar with the Hurst Review or Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). They are both considered review programs for the NCLEX. ATI is what our nursing program uses in conjunction with our studies. The Hurst Review is something some of us are looking at registering for just after graduation and prior to taking the NCLEX.

Any insight into either would be greatly appreciated!

The program that I graduated from did ATI and they told us to take the ATI predictor for the NCLEX seriously because it could identify who was most likely to pass NCLEX the first time (I passed the predictor and NCLEX on the first try). After I graduated the hospital that I work for offered to pay for the Kaplan tutorial and I liked it because I could take practice tests online and identify areas that I needed to brush-up on. Some of my friends work at a different hospital and they were offered the Hurst review and said that it was a good review. After having experienced both (my friend brought her hurst dvd to my house) I think that it is a preference thing. I liked Kaplan because I could take the online option and do it from home at my own speed. If you go to the class for hurst or kaplan an instructor will be reading questions to the group and you answer them. I was tired of sitting through classes so I did my tutorial online. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

My BSN program piloted the ATI program. At the time I was enrolled, ATI was not mandatory, but highly encouraged. I paid for the ATI program on my own and thought it was worth every penny.

I am a self-learner and procrastinator and liked that ATI made a study schedule for me. You take a test to begin the program and that shows your strengths and weaknesses. No need to spend a ton of time studying an area that you are already good at. So, from that test the virtual instructor determines what you should spend the more time on. Then they put together a color coded scheduled to bring you up to your target NCLEX date. You also get feedback from the instructor when you take the tests. You study and tests on all areas, but the time you have to study depends on your initial test scores.

I passed first time with 75 questions. I thought ATI questions were more comprenhensive than Kaplan and more like the NCLEX. I thought Kaplan questions didn't have enough info in them to throw me off. The actual NCLEX questions are long and have a ton of info in them. That means you have to determine what the question is asking you and what info is pertinent. I primarily did ATI and did a Kaplan test book and CD for some extra questions.

Good luck.

I did both. My school required ATI to track our progress (our school doesn't have the greatest pass rate); they actually incorportated it into the curriculum, kind of, we were required to take ATI tests at the end of every semester and it was part of our grade. By choice, I wanted to take Hurst because I heard really good things about it. I've done the classroom review twice (once you pay you can go as much as you want) and I am reviewing my Hurst book, DVD and practice questions to prep for NCLEX. I'm not even using my ATI stuff anymore.

I take NCLEX next week and I feel confident I'll pass the first time. Marlene's voice really sticks in your head, and I have a feeling she'll be with me in front of that computer!

I took the Hurst Review at my school with my classmates. I found the information to be presented in a way that made you think about each system. I left the review course feeling confident. I did what they said to study went in took the test and passed with 75Q. Many of the other students that took the Hurst Review also passed with 75Q's. I really recommend taking this course! It is not only informative but engaging and very entertaining! You will love it!

Thank you everyone for your responses-I have decided I will take all the help and extra tutorials I can get my hands on! I would rather spend a little extra money as a supplement to the ATI provided by our program and pass the first time!

Hurst review was wonderful..It really put all of the pieces together from nursing school. It builds on content and core principles. I was so impressed with it, I would recommend it to everyone. I wish I had done it after second semester like some people do, you can repeat the course free of charge. It also keeps you involved and it is pretty funny at times. It was worth it...

I did the Hurst review and really liked it. It's a great comprehensive, content based review. I thought Marlene Hurst was very entertaining. If Southern accents bother you, though, the videos might drive you crazy! :) I liked it and passed on the 1st try. Good luck to you!

I just started my hurst plan today, does anyone have any ideas on where I should start. Or do you have a mapped out plan for either 5 days, 1 week, or 2 weeks?

HURST????? We were sign up to Hurst review program by our school, i attended the class and found it useless, you have no time to write the blanks in the book or listen to the instructor, since this is 5 day course the instructor is very fast and you have no time to make any notes, i walked out from the program, so many other students in our class, i requested that they switch my program to the online review so i would be able to review back and forth, and they rejected, telling me that i did not give the program enough time, all they want is money, i also did ATI at school and finde it very usefull so i will be doing the ATI, Personally i will not recommend the HURST program, many companys have employes post positive feedbacks abot their product, Before spending your money do a research., Victor
