How do I get experience w/o experience?

Nurses General Nursing

So I am in school right now getting all my pre-req's for Nursing School. In hopes to being a BA program for my RN next fall. I have an AS in education so ive been working part time in the field, but I would love to work part time doing SOMETHING.. reception/patient services.. or i dunno, in a doctor's office or hospital. But i cannot find a job that will hire me. It seems to me everyone is looking for MA's or LPN's or RN's.

So Is it a matter of me waiting till im in school and go through clinicals? Till I get a job in the field?

Maybe you could take a CNA class, then get your foot in the door as a CNA. I know where I live, Medicaid requires you to have 75 hours of instructions (including 16 hours of clinicals). You could find a course to get that out of the way in a few weeks, then try to get a jobs at wherever you do your clinicals.

It's hard to find a job as a unit clerk or receptionist working in health care without experience (at least in my area.) I applied for soo many different positions when I was taking my prereqs for nursing school and didn't get one call back. Like the above poster said, you can take a CNA class for the time being. That would give you great experience for nursing school and you'll feel much more comfortable on the unit when you start clinicals. If you don't have time to do that, just wait until after you have one semester of clinicals under your belt; with that experience you will have no problem finding a job as a aide!

Good luck!

Thank for your responses. Yeah Im afraid With taking courses and trying to juggle at least at a part time position in the field that i already have a degree in education (..which doesnt leave me with much money, barely enough for loans). Im going to have to wait until i have a semester under my belt, cause i dont have the money or time to get my LNA right now. Might be able to next spring though.. hmm.

Well thank you both for your input!!!! I appreciate it!
