Amen Anne!!!
I'm old (56) and can't stand other oldsters who talk about the "old days" like some sort of mystical playground where everything was wonderful. However, what you said about modern economics is a sad fact of life. I grew up in a large family in an urban environment. My Dad worked and my Mom stayed at home. We weren't rich but all us kids went to Catholic grade school and we took some sort of vacation every year. We had everything we needed on one paycheck without OT. I don't see that happening now & its sad. It's not sad that women can have a career and not be stay at home moms. It is sad that economics really don't provide that as a viable option today

No need, there is never a shortage of hours in the ED that I can pick up. If that ever changes I can go pick up shifts in the ICU or PICU... all for time and a half.

When I worked 2 jobs I was working 40 at one and 8-16 at the other. Money was great and this was before I had children
