Do i have what it takes?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Next year i will be applying to attend nursing school. I have read people's stories about how hard nursing school is due to the amount of calculations, memorization, and studying. I am a bit nervous about this. I am great with studying and i am ready for the hard work. However, I am horrible at advance mathematics but i am excellent in biology and science. In high school i have a 3.8GPA and i have started prepping myself for the test i will need to take in order to even be accepted in nursing school. I also do not have great memory, which i assume will be an issue but is it possible to still become an RN even with bad memory and not being the greatest when it comes to advance mathematics? My IQ is 120 but i still struggle with subjects. Growing up i was told at an early age that i was behind intellectually- little did anyone know that i did possess a good intellect. It was just that i did not learn the same as others. I had to learn things my way, i guess i am just different. I know i want to work in nursing, it is my passion. I spent most of my childhood and adolescent years in the hospital and that is where my passion began. I admire what you all do, and i hope i can do it too.

You know what I like about this post? You've identified weaknesses in yourself that you think might keep you from being a good nurse. Now it's your job to work on them. Self help, professional help, more education, etc, whatever it takes. When you have passion for something and there's no good reason why you can't attempt it, go for it. It isn't always about wanting something bad enough, but about understanding your own potential and limitations and making sure that what you are aiming for fits into reality. Also, nurses don't need advanced math if you are talking about calculus, higher order algebras, or other things like that. Second also, stop telling people what your IQ is. It's one of those things that good for you to know, but no one else needs to. Besides 120 is above-average anyway. Best of luck.
