Christmas Traditions!

Merry Christmas (especially those of you who are working tomorrow),

I just wanted to share some of our Christmas traditions and maybe hear some new ones.

One thing we always do is go up to the high country a week or two before Christmas and cut our tree. Every year we have a few more folks come with us (this year we had 32 people). We build a fire and have hot chocolate for the kids and cook something. If there is enough snow we also go sledding.

One other thing we do is invite someone (or 2 or 3) for Christmas dinner who has no family near them. We give them some type of job and they feel right at home.

My kids started a new tradition a few years back and we have continued it. We each buy a gift for a stranger. We don't know who it is for until we see them. There is no criteria. You buy the gift first and when you see someone you think might enjoy it you hand it over. It's fun to see the reactions when someone gets a gift from a stranger.

Got any traditions? Share them here.

I suppose the tradition I started with my kids is a little bit less spiritual than others, but it has been fun.

Every year, I hang a ceramic bell on the Christmas tree. I make sure the kids hear it ring several times before Christmas eve. I have told them that is the "Santa Bell." When Santa comes, he arranges the presents around the tree, and just when he is ready to leave, he rings the "Santa Bell." Then, after I got up and fixed my coffee, I rang the bell really loud.

I did this with the older (now 20 and 21) kids, and it was such fun to see them come running when the bell rang with eyes all lit up. Somehow, they always "just missed" Santa. My three year old is already primed for the "Santa Bell" this year.

MERRY X-MAS TO ALL NURSES!

Is today a better day to revive this thread?

Hope so!

Merry Christmas to all!

A Blessed and Merry Christmas to my Allnurses friends!

I enjoy reading everyone's traditions. One of mine has been driving 1000 miles to see my Mom and Dad and siblings for Christmas. We always took music and sang lots of Christmas carols on the drive (we took it straight through...a 20 hr drive)...each year we tried to beat our time by a few minutes.

It was also good 'talk time' on the drive...we hashed over lots of issues on that trip. :)

Now that my folks are gone it is a little lonely at Christmas, but we reminisce.....and still have the 'urge' to drive somewhere...LOL!

Happy Holidays Ya'll!!:kiss
