Challenging the test

I have been doing nursing work for over 20 yrs., but however i am not certified is there anyway I can challenge the test without taking classes.

You would need to contact your state's BON and ask them, because they are the ones that have the final say.

Some states will let you challenge. Others won't.

What type of "nursing work" have you been doing? Do you mean nurse aid? Some states do allow you to challenge for a CNA certificate.

In terms of registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse, I have never heard of a state that would allow you to sit for the NCLEX without graduation from a nursing school. If Meriwhen says there are some, I will bow to her experience, but that is outside of my experience.

If you do mean that you've been performing as a nurse for years, I'd be curious as to what type of work you've been doing and what type of facility you're working for.

The only one I can vouch for is California--you can become a LVN without graduating from a practical nursing program. But there are very specific requirements to be met, and the LVN license you get may not be able to be endorsed to other states.
