so i pass the audition and am finally accepted on our unit. battle won but not the war.

now i find myself having to deal with some of the assistants.

i dont want to continually tell them what needs done...they know..i dont want to bytch at them all the time. i dont want the hassle. and i sure as heck dont want to be a tattle tale. not my style.

looks like im going to have to do one or the other soon tho...arghhhh

for the past two days i have had the misfortune to work with one of the worst. kicker is she is going to nursing school. boy i cant wait for her to graduate..lol

she did vital signs and accuchecks and that was about it. never bathed anyone, changed one bed cos i told her to. never sent any specimens. left urine and feces in the bathroom....needed a specimen but she never sent them. pt complained to the mgr. i had to force her to go in and take care of it.

i had to force her to do everything. asked her to run to medical records...was urgent. she told me no...she was charting...lol

i went. god knows i had nothing to do...lol

she looks good on paper tho. she charts every single thing she does so she looks busy.

yesterday happened to be the day the mgr decided to go around and ask the patients how they felt about their care. all the things she did were taken note of by the mgr. of course i am going to hear about them too but its worth it. i wouldnt do her job yesterday. i did it the day before.

yesterday was nuts. i had no time.

the mgr came up to her and told her bout the things she didnt do. she never said a word to me...the assistant says to me "boy are we in trouble" lol

no...i dont think we are.

then we have a clique of assistants who try to run the unit by trying to intimidate the nursing staff and some of them, they do.

in the next day or so im going to be on the shytlist because i did go to the mgr and complained, naming names. and i know they are all going to turn on me and i know that things are going to get very uncomfortable for a while but damn i dont know what else i can do. i tell them whats up and they dont listen. they do this to all the nurses, not just me, but seems like im the only one gutsy (stupid) enough to speak up...

i dont want to be a bytch!

Thank you for being an awesome nurse. One who doesn't forget the basic principles of her proffesion. this is, giving basic patient care, comfort is the key to recovery. Our supervisor says it best. People recover with or without us.Meds and time make anyone better. The love and caring we show patients is what makes them feel better, so they can get better.I am a patient Care tech. I take pride in what I do. I am not lazy, nor are the other tech's I work with. I am sorry their are people in this world that don't do thier fair share. I wish those people would realize that who they are hurting by this infantile behavior, are the pateints they care for.I walk on to a floor and see my patients, all thirtytwo of them, that is the whole floor.I don't see my assignment of 15. I go to work,as soon as I am done I go to the other side to see if they are finished. If they're not, then i help. Call me crazy but that is what I am getting paid to do. I applaud the hard working nurses that jump up to answer a light, and don't feel it beneath them to put or take a patient off the bedpan. They see what is needed to be done and do it without complaint. They are the ones that hold their heads high and walk around with a feeling of pride.I, one day

will become a nurse. I will be a nurse like I just descibed. I won't waste my 8 or 12 hours complainning about how bad the nursing shortage is (I leave that up to the others to figure out) I will go to and work. I will smile, joke and laugh my way through life. I will find positive things to look at and be proud of. I will not allow negative people to destroy the good in my heart.Nursing is not for everyone, and I wish those that destroy the good in nursing could find a new vocation.

Thank you for being the excellent nurses I know some of you are.

opps, sorry for the typos. I thought I had them all...lol

And, thank YOU, rhona1 for being the excellent PCT that you obviously are! You will make a great nurse. I have worked with a wide variety of PCT's and have found "please" and "thankyou" and showing appreciation for their work goes a long way to getting the most help with the least grumbling. When I've gotten complaints or bad attitudes, I remind them that we RN's or LPN's can always help them with THEIR jobs, but they cannot always help us with OUR jobs.
