After the lengthy hiatus I've tried to give my all to the ICU. Brief description: I started on then floor then went to ICU. Floor experience = 1.5 years and ICU experience = 3 years roughly. I'm so burnt out! Is this when the burn out starts to happen? 5 years? As I get closer it becomes more intolerable. And I'm beginning to see bedside become more and more idiotic. The policies, the practices, the families, the patients!!! I can't decide whether the world has gotten worse in five years or it bedside has gone to crap even more in five years or BOTH.

Where is the light? Where? I feel like my intelligence is wasted! Sometimes we do such ridiculous things in the ICU and they make no sense and everyone knows they make no sense but we still do them!!!! I try to be patient with the interns and residents but sometimes they don't help either. I need someone who's not gonna be scared of an attending ....! Take control MAN! We have a 350 pound unsedated patient breaking restraints about to yank their tube ... you're scared to order sedation because the attending said no sedation? XXX!

We have a confused, shallow breathing, desaturation patient ... BiPAP??? Really BiPAP!? You're scared that the attending will be mad bc you got this pt intubated?

and XXX don't get me started on all the ridiculous paperwork and policies. I'm so over it. What a FUDGE FEST.

Over and out... rant DONE!

How is OR? What kinda crap do you have to put up with there?
