Advice!* LVN or RN?

Hello everyone. Here's my story: I'm a single mom, I'm currently working as a CNA. I live in a rural area with only 2 colleges, a community college and a university. I have all my pre reqs done for the LVN and yesterday got accepted into the LVN program for Fall 2017. My mom said she's scared that it'll be a waste of time since my ULTIMATE GOAL is to achieve my BSN. But my area has a waitlist for the nursing program, people wait up to 4 years around here. I just don't know. Please, your advice helps. Thank you so much in advance.

A few things to consider:

1. What is the cost of the LVN program?

2. What are your job prospects as an LVN in your specific area?

3. Would you be "waiting" for four years for the RN program, or do you have prerequisites that aren't done yet?

4. Are there LVN to RN bridge programs in your area?

5. Some wait-list RN programs change to competitive entry (which is generally considered more fair). Keep that in mind no matter what you decide to do and make sure you keep your grades high.
