General Ed courses I can do online?

Published

I am new to the form and just wanted to say it has been a wealth of knowledge and helped me decide to become a nurse. I wanted to ask if anyone knows what general ed courses I can take online while I'm waiting to start nursing school. Here's a little background to help you understand my problem. My husband is military (coast guard) and we haven't been able to stay anywhere long enough for me to have the opportunity to start school. My girls (all 3) are going to start school soon so I am seriously trying to find an avenue to make this happen but it's hard to plan your educational path when you don't know where you will be living next year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your help.

I'm not sure where you reside, but if you are willing to pay out of state fees, there are a few programs here in AZ that allow you to take as many gen-ed courses (science, English, math, etc) as you can handle. For example there is Rio-Salado (and they're an online community college) that has all the basic nursing pre-reqs (though I would warn to stay away from their science courses since they are known to be VERY challenging and few people get A's from their courses- use the search function at the top to find more info about Rio-Salado science courses!). There is also Central Arizona College (which is the program I am starting this summer to get my pre-reqs) and they have the same deal as Rio Salado. I can tell you more about CAC since I'm attending there and the cost per credit is $267 if you are an out of state resident. (It's very expensive if you are out of state unfortunately). I plan to start my classes with them at end of Summer (6/29) and if you want me to keep you updated on how they're going I will let you know! ;) Best of luck !

I currently live in Staten Island NY. I was wondering more so about where I can find a list of specific general ed courses that I can do online that will count toward my rn degree. I just REALLY want to get started moving in the right direction and I don't want to wait 1-2 more years to see where our next station will be ( one year left on this tour, and maybe another if we get an extension). I just want to start taking some kind of courses that will help me out later in my goals and I don't know which one's will do that and which are a waste of time. I hope your classes go smoothly and definately keep me posted on the college and how it all works out.

first research prereqs so you don't end up taking a bunch of classes that you don't need...been there done that :D

the school where i am taking most of my classes does tons of online classes and i have had students in my class that are in india, pakestan, and germany. it is a community college, so it is much cheaper than a lot of the online options out there.

their web site is www.grayson.edu and the main campus is in denison texas. some of the classes require testing in testing centers, but many of the professors are allowing the tests to be taken at alternate centers and allow for a proctor to give the tests ( just e-mail ahead of time and they will give you their policy).

some of the classes i have taken online were:

lifespan and development

general psych

english 1 and ii

sociology

nutrition

us government

us history

medical terms

algebra (intermediate and college)

the other school i take classes at has online options, but i am not sure how it works out of state, but they too are a community college and you can find them at www.parisjc.edu.

good luck!
