General & Physiological Chemistry

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm trying to sort out my pre-requisites for nursing school for this semester. All General Chemistry classes are filled up, but General & Physio Chem had a few openings. It also caught my eye because to me it seems more relevant to nursing.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a course like this? As someone who's just going back to school, is it going to destroy me? I took high school chemistry, but that was about 12 years ago. I wonder if waiting or trying to weasel my way into plain old General Chem would be a better idea.

Here's the course description:

Prerequisites: high school chemistry or CHE100; MAT034 or equivalent. Introduction to basic chemical and physical principles and their applications to life processes. Lab exercises illustrate these principles and the behavior of physiologically significant materials.

Cheers! :D

Pharma182,

I would suggest contacting potential nursing schools for course evaluation on this particular course to make sure they will accept this course as an alternate for general chemistry. You don't want to take a class that wouldn't count towards your prerequisite to nursing schools.

From my own understanding general and physiological chemistry would make sense as a course towards nursing school as it relates to the chemical properties of our body.

Just to be sure contact your potential nursing schools and also talk to a counselor at the school you are taking this class.

Good luck!
