Taking Chemisty fall 2010
I'm sure it depends a lot on the school and the particular class, but I just took one called General & Physiological Chemistry this past spring. I'm 28. It was my very first pre-requisite class and my first science class I've taken since high school (10 years). I last took Chemistry in 10th grade (12 years ago). I got a C that time... I breezed through this course and aced it. I'm not bragging, I worked for it. But this time around I was working towards something I know I want - becoming a nurse. Didn't have that in high school and I think it helps. I studied every single day... even if it was just a few minutes going through my flash cards. It's true this class is more about understanding the workings of things rather than straight memorization. I don't really know what else to day except that I was nervous too seeing as how long it had been for me. Just keep up with the material and PRACTICE what they give you. If I did it anyone can.

General & Physiological Chemistry
I'm trying to sort out my pre-requisites for nursing school for this semester. All General Chemistry classes are filled up, but General & Physio Chem had a few openings. It also caught my eye because to me it seems more relevant to nursing. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a course like this? As someone who's just going back to school, is it going to destroy me? I took high school chemistry, but that was about 12 years ago. I wonder if waiting or trying to weasel my way into plain old General Chem would be a better idea. Here's the course description: Prerequisites: high school chemistry or CHE100; MAT034 or equivalent. Introduction to basic chemical and physical principles and their applications to life processes. Lab exercises illustrate these principles and the behavior of physiologically significant materials. Cheers!

UMDNJ Newark Spring 2010 Accelerated BSN
Congrats to everyone accepted! Best of luck to you guys. I'm hoping to apply to UMDNJ Stratford within a year. Getting my pre-reqs done now. I was wondering, however, did you find that the school placed a lot of emphasis on the grades you received while getting your first bachelors? Or were they more concerned with the pre-requisite grades in A&P, chem, etc? Could you tell at all? I didn't end up with the most impressive of GPAs first time around. It was > 3.0 for the longest time, but ended up a 2.85. I really screwed up in my final semester. But this was 5 years ago. I'm a different person now. I have a real goal and this is something I'm determined to accomplish. I guess I'm just hoping they can see past the blunders of my youth!
