Gallup Poll says we're a great place to work YEAH RIGHT!!!!

Nurses General Nursing

The hospital I work for owns several other hospitals in other areas of the country & recently they sent out this memo stating how a survey taken states that our hospitals have been chosen by Gallup as one of 25 organizations worldwide to receive their “Great Workplace Award”. I have to laugh at that because less than a year ago we took a Q12 survey that showed that the majority of the nurses at our hospital are only mildly happy with there jobs. Our managers went as far as to have 1:1 meetings with the nursing staff before the next Q12 survey in order to see what could be done to change our answers before the next survey in order to circumvent our answers. Obviously, the "Great Workplace" doesn't include our hospital & I really think that the company that owns us should know the truth. I think that by speaking 1:1 to our manager instead of only taking the anonymous survey they will know who the negative Nellie's are& really the 1:1 is for that purpose only.

Funny how those surveys work, eh? I have been a nurse since 1995 and have had to relocate a lot due to my husbands career, so I have been and seen a lot of places. And generally, I've like all the places I've worked.....until recently. I hired in at a place that was absolutely the worst, dirtiest, run down and understaffed facility I've ever put my foot into. Oh my gosh it was AWFUL. I quit after 6 months; couldn't take it. Techs sleeping for hours on the job, patients getting ignored, archaic systems for nursing; it was terrible. And then I saw on the website that the company won one of those Best Places to Work awards. I couldn't believe it--it was a nightmare! So I'm thinking that award is pretty much crossing your t's and dotting the i's on paper and meaningless in substance ( i.e. patient care on the ground, nursing environment on the units, etc..).
