Ga LPN to RN-- Advice Please

Published

Is going for an Associates worth the time and money here in GA? I really want to get into wound care and everywhere I have looked requires an RN for that. Also, are there any schools you'd recommend to apply to or avoid?

Thanks

Hi merei! :dummy:

I am from GA as well and am currently enrolled in an LPN to BSN program. I think that there are still jobs available in GA for and RN with an ADN, but I think that may not always be the case. It seems that as many have previously stated here on AN, the standard for entry level RN is shifting to at least a BSN. For me at this point, I think it is just smarter to go ahead and get the BSN so that I stay ahead of the changes. I don't think getting the ADN is necessarily a bad idea, but if you have plans to go for a BSN later any way, I would recommend just going ahead and getting it to start with. I try to look at the future and the most efficient way of obtaining my future goals and for me, that is definitely getting my BSN!

Best of luck to you in whatever path you choose!

I am waiting to hear if I have been accepted into the LPN to RN Bridge program here in Ga. What school are you going to in GA?

Going for an ASN is worth the time and money of you dont have a lot of time and money to support the extra year or two it will take to get your BSN. I personally would love to go straight to BSN but I just cant afford to. Chattahoochee tech, GA Perimeter, and Gwinnett tech, all have LPN to RN programs, in the greater ATL area. I believe GA state has a LPN to BSN(It might be GA southern, I just know it was a university!!!) And Piedmont College in Athens has an LPN to BSN. Those are just the programs I know of but there may be some closer to wherever you are located.....Also I constantly see many jobs for ASN. A lot of times hospitals that are trying to gain Magnet status will just give you a time frame to get your BSN, and its usually a reasonable amount of time. Good luck to you 😊
