Future Mother/Baby RN

U.S.A. Georgia

Hello all! This thread is for all RNs working in L&D, Mother/Baby or NICU. I am a nursing student, hoping to get accepted for upcoming Fall 2012. So, I have awhile before I finish nursing school. I do know that I want to work in one of these departments when I graduate. Is there any advice or tips you can give me to obtain a job in these departments. I really would love to be a Mother/Baby RN but L&D, NICU and even Peds are areas I would like to work. Is there anything I should be doing while in nursing school to get a job in these areas?

The advice would be extremely helpful. I would like to know too as this is where my career path is heading as well :)

I would say try to get a tech position in any of those areas. You usually have to wait until after your first semester of nursing school to do that though. You could also volunteer. Also in your Senior year try to get your preceptorship in any of those areas. These are all things that could be put on your nursing resume and may make you stand out.....Until then just enjoy nursing school!!!!!!:D

Hello,

I also would agree with the previous post about working as a tech in one of these departments. I currently am working at Emory University Hospital Midtown in the Mother/Baby Unit. Send me a PM and I can tell you more about it. Good luck! I am also trying to get into nursing school.

Hi boocho! I have just been hired as a nurse tech in a mother/baby unit. What can I expect of the job duties? I am also in an RN program. I appreciate any feedback! Thanks:)
