Recently, I've been seeing some of the residents at my hospital playing a "video game" on the computers. At first glance, I thought they were just wasting time but when I took a closer look, I saw why they were playing it so much. It was actually a teaching tool cleverly disguised as an addicting video game! I tried playing it and since then, I haven't cooked dinner:D

Basically, it's like a patient simulator for infections and antibiotics. Patients come in with complaints like fevers and trouble breathing. Little gram stains of bacteria come on the screen and you get to pick antibiotics to shoot and stop them (the website says the interactions are based on real data).
Anyways, if this makes the interns better at picking the right antibiotics, maybe they should make them play more games like this in medical school? I think it would make our lives easier and patient's lives better. What do you guys think?

Way cool game - a very clever way to study.

Anything inventive that teaches is a way to go for me! I hope they come across something like that for nursing!!
