Full time student or half time: Dreaded Loan repayment!

Published

Hello everyone :)

I am only taking one class in the Spring 2012, this means my loans come out of deferment and I have to start paying them back, gasp!!! I will be a full time student next Fall 2012, though, so I won't have to pay them long.

My question is: Do I add another class just so I don't have to pay my loans? I was holding off on Biology for Fall, taking Physiology in the Summer... and I could make a bit more money, since my husband and I are trying to save for a down payment on our first home!

I guess I'm torn because I could A: potentially save some money (not a ton, but a little) or B: get another class I need completed (possibly apply to another RN program a semester early, having it completed) but I won't be able to keep my hours at my job.

I know, it's mostly based on what is necessary at the time, but I thought I would ask my pre-nursing and nursing buddies

Thank you all!!

When I feel I am not sure what to do when I have two or more routes I can take with a situation, I get a sheet a paper and write out all the pros and the cons of each. It sounds a bit cliche, but it works. I have a tendency to sometimes let others' answers to the situation cloud my judgement and what may in fact, be best for me in the long run so I usually take it upon myself to make the biggest decisions without asking may others around me what they would do.

However, opinions and help choosing can really make a world's difference when you need it!

I'd say go ahead with the one class and pay your loans back for a few months, while being able to keep the hours you currently have at your job. I say this for the fact that your husband and yourself are trying to save up for a down payment on your first home, and since you guys are trying for that (I know how anticipating this is!) I feel like if you added an extra class to the mix for next semester, your grades may suffer while you will be struggling or trying to work the same amount of hours at your current job, as well as the same shift/schedule and you'll go into a stress overload or have a hard time finding the balance right now since you really want to be saving up for your first home, while still focusing on your nursing degree.

Whatever it is you choose to do, I'm sure you'll make the right decision for YOU! Best of luck!

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I needed to read :) I am going to sit down tonight after my studies, and seriously label the pros and cons of each and see which is better! I most likely will be sticking with just the one course so I can focus on making more money for the time being... I will have a heavy course load this summer and fall 2012!

I truly appreciate what you have said and it helped me a lot with my decision!! Thank you and best of luck to you too!!
