I hate to break your bubble, but you have to have been fired or laid off to collect unemployment benefits. If you quit, you will not qualify. You have to be able and available for work, and your unemployment status should be somehow beyond your control. :o

thanks for that infor.. i kind of figured that...

well i guess i keep calling out sick until they fire me,,,lol what else can i do

I also hate to burst your other bubble, but even if you get fired, it is still difficult to collect unemployment. The unemployment agency workers are not the friendliest and they will do everything in their power to not pay out your benefits. They will ask you why you were fired. Then, they will get the reasons from your employer. If there is an insubordination issue, or any issue in which your employer had no other alternative issue than to fire you, you can and will probably be denied. Even if you are eligible, they usually deny the first time (probably in hopes of you not applying again). It is a lengthy process. This happened to me about 8 years ago.

If you do happen to get the benefits, you aren't just simply collecting a check. You must report in to the agency and prove that you have been looking for a job. You must show proof of having looked, applied, etc.

This may even be more inconviencing than working, so it should be acting as a deterrent to those who do not want to work; as it should!!

Unemployment is devised as a sort of insurance to help out those who find themselves suddenly without a job. Not to be used and abused by those who no longer feel like working. Shame on those who abuse this system, as it hurts all of us who do work and find that when we truly do need to call on it, find all the hoops and hurdles that we must go through to get it!!

I agree, you aren't gauranteed unemployment if you get fired. If your employer can justify the reason you were fired (ie. calling in sick numerous times) you will NOT be able to get unemployment. It is the employer that has the upper hand and will approve wether or not to allow you to collect. I have been through it with my husband. It is NOT an easy process and one that I wouldn't gamble with if you need to work.

Good morning all :)

thanks for all the advise.

i guess i'll continue to work part time on the weekends only...
