Frustrated with nursing

Nurses General Nursing

I've been a nurse since 2009 and as a new grad I received a reprimand on my nursing license regarding a documentation issue. i relocated to another state and I've been fortunate to work in a critical care setting. Recently I applied for a California RN license and I was rejected, i have 60 days to file an appeal. I'm frustrated because after I received my reprimand I moved to New York and was able to obtain licensure but California is giving me a hard time. I feel like this reprimand has been a thorn on my side, can't advance in my field because it haunts me. I see how a person with a felony feel because it's hard to find jobs. Travel nurse agencies won't touch me. Should I file the appeal? Get an attorney to get my California license?

When I was issued my reprimand, they didn't make me take any courses or continuing Ed classes. I normally do the continuing Ed courses when I renew my RN license for the CEU's, I've been to some seminars too. The crazy thing about this is when I applied for the California RN license, I sent them 3 letters of recommendation 1 from a physician and 2 from nursing supervisors, an explanation of my reprimand, also my job evaluation from my current job I've been working for 4yrs since the reprimand, I haven't had any infractions since the initial one. I will file an appeal and talk to a lawyer on Monday. I appreciate the support from everyone on this post. I wonder if I went back to school for something different in the medical field like physical therapy or pharmacy will this reprimand from being a RN affect me. What do u think?

I'm confused. Did you self-report that you gave more Lantus? Did someone go behind you and somehow see that you gave more than you charted? Did another nurse co-sign an amount different from what was prescribed? I'm not sure what exactly you did way back when, but from what I am reading (and maybe assuming?) it seems a bit harsh. Go ahead and take a CEU on the nurse practice act. Maybe that will work in your favor. Sorry this all happened!!

In a nutshell, it can still affect you. Virtually any licensure application in any field has some verbiage to the effect of, "have you every had any publicly issued license revoked, reprimanded, or suspended?" That means if you were a licensed home day care provider, cosmetologist, or notary public and had any marks on your license, you are required to disclose. They will do a public records search based on current name, any aliases (maiden/married names, etc.), addresses for the last ten years, and social security number. Yep, it can follow you.

I would appeal. From what I have seen, people can and are initially denied and then refile again. Good luck
