Frustrated in michigan!!!! Employment & school!!! Please give advice!!!!

Published

I have recently obtained my CNA certification and I also have a EMT-Basic license and ERT/PCT training. However, finding gainful employment is very hard for me and I'm trying to figure out why??!?! Currently, I am employed as a CNA with a non-medical home care agency but the hours are horrible! I can't provide for my daughter working 7 hours a week if any! Also, when I do work I feel frustrated because I don't seem to be applying any of MANY medical skills that I do have. I feel like a housekeeper not a CNA!!! So does anyone know of any nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals or medical focused home care agencies that I can look into????

In addition to that, I'm trying to fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. I just found out about a LPN program that I want to enroll in. However, I've been told before that the profession of a LPN is fazing out, and that employers are beginning to look only for RN's. Is this true??? or is being a LPN still a lucrative profession????

p.s. once I get the LPN, I'm thinking I might go back to school to become an RN after a couple of years....

Thank you in advance for you input!!! Have a Blesed Day!!!

What part of Michigan do you live in, try checking careerbuilder. I know HenryFord Hospital Macomb located in warren, MI is hiring and they hire CNA's also. Tendercare of taylor was hiring in Taylor, MI on Northline. The best thing to do is to call and ask if they are accepting applications because alot of nursing homes don't advertise open positions, thats what I use to do. And far as LPNs go I am a LPN and alot of hospitals don't hire us only RNs but there are nursing homes that mostly consist of LPNs but I have seen the hiring trend slow down a little. Good Luck with whatever path you decide to take.

I know exactly how you feel, I even hated myself because I had a BS degree and couldn't find a job so I decided to work for an agency with my CNA license..all I did was clean patients:banghead:..i think it all depends on where u are located at, in NYC a lot of facilities are hiring LPN's.

Unfortunately, the reason you can't find employment is because you're stuck in Michigan. I miss Michigan, but I got out and have been gainfully employed in another state for 4 years now. So glad, I actually can afford to eat again.

I wish you the best of luck, however!! It's tough up there..I hope it gets better soon!!
