FRN / Navy or Air Force

I am currently a nursing student in a post-bac accelerated BSN/RN program. Its a 16 month eat-breathe-sleep scenario. I have had a lot of time to figure out what I really want out of life. Mostly life experiences and previous degrees and jobs have led me to this decision. I want to be a flight registered nurse (FRN). I already know how hard it is to get there and all the tid/bits on the specialty… however, what I do not know is whether to join the USAF or USN to have a better shot at this career.

I have been discussing options with the Navy since Spring 2010... I am not sure if they are the right force to join in regards to working my way up to the FRN career. Recruiters seem to know very little and those who have been honorably discharged from both forces, loved their experiences. So its tough to distinguish the pros and cons. I don't care where I get sent or what I do to get there... but it would be nice to get the training I want towards that career. Which force is more specialized in training their nurses to become FRNs?

If you know anything about flight nursing and what its like to be in the military and achieve this profession... please get back to me. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on what they feel was the better option for them. Ultimately I get the point that the choice is mine, but I want the truth not just a recruiter's version of what its like. With graduation right around the corner, this is becoming a tough decision.

P.S. If I did join either force… it would be a lifetime career… this is something I don’t see myself walking away from once I join. This is a serious thread. Please only answer it if you are truly versed in the realm of critical care nursing/FRN for MIL. Thank you!:)

:unsure:Sorry in advance for commenting on this page, since what I am about to say isn't relevant entirely.

This is the only discussion available under my search to learn more about Flight Registered Nursing (FRN).

I'd like to speak to CFRN's out there who are willing to give guidance on this specialty.

I've applied to many FRN positions but haven't heard back or received rejection letters.

I know you have to have so many years of experience and I know certifications help etc.

I'm just wondering if there are any companies out there that train from scratch....

who may be more lenient on what you need for requisites, do to having training programs available to their new flight nurses.
