How do you make the role transition from student to new grad? It is difficult, because expectations of students are clearly specified in course and clinical objectives. However, expectations of a new nurse is less clear. Any insight?

You should have a precepter and outlined expectations in the unit where you are hired. Just go through this process, always ask questions!
Good luck!

Even though you have graduated, you still have ALOT to learn. Don't expect to know everything. Be sure to ask lots of questions.
You will feel overwhelmed . . . and remember we were all "new grads" at some point in our career. You are not "out there" alone. :nuke:

I am also a new grad, and the tranisiton has been sort of rough for me. Thank goodness for preceptors! From teaching, to giving pep-talks and encouragement. New Grads would definitely be lost with out them!

Ask lots of questions while you have a preceptor there with you. Take every opportunity to learn something new. Offer to take the patient who is a challenge while you have a preceptor to help you problem solve. Take it one day at a time.
