I have a good three years before even applying to a program and I'm already freaking out. If I got in I would have to quit a rather well paying job. My family is on my benefits. There is a good chance my hubby could pick those up in the meantime. And he also says we will cross that bridge when we come to it. But oh my goodness the thought of it is making me crazy!!
Then there is the flip side - what if I don't get in? Will I have wasted yet another 3 years taking those pre reqs? What would I do then?
All this nervousness has me looking at other options - like paralegal or dental assisting. Neither of which I really want to do but are less "iffy". Nursing is the only thing I really want to do / but how do I set my fears aside and just do it? Advice?

First, you should do what you think you want to do. Don't just "pick something." Also, there are no guarantees in life. You could do the work required and get into nursing school and have an accident one day and die. You just never know. What is the use in speculating? It serves no purpose. I know it can be overwhelming. Trust me, I am in a well-paid career and have been working on pre-reqs since 2010. I am waiting on word from a school right now and I am very worried that I am not gonna make the cut. If I don't, i'll make a new game plan, take a few other classes and reapply at that school and a few others I hadn't considered before. If I want to make this happen I will, and you can too. I know that it is very overwhelming when you first decide to go down this path of nursing school. It feels like everything is on top of you, but remember, it's actually out in front of you and you will navigate through it step by step as you come to it.
Regarding your good job you have now, what a blessing to be in that position. It's a position I am in as well. With three years you have plenty of time to begin an aggressive savings plan so by the time you leave your job you will have a huge savings to help you while in school. That is what I have done for the past two year and I know I am going to have more peace of mind than other students because of this cushion I have built. Again if I don't get in this year, yes it's frustrating to have worked so long on pre-reqs but it's not over yet and I can continue to build my savings while I apply again.
Thanks for that! I had a huge heart to heart with my hubby about this. He said he would hate to see me settle on something. That I should go for it. It's just a frightening thing to do - following your dreams. But, I'll never know if it's even possible unless I try.

A LOT can happen in three years!!! Your hub might find a new/better job where he has great insurance! Knowing you have three years before getting into a program, use it to your advantage! Start saving as much as you possibly can. Learn to coupon because there is a LOT of money you can save (and all without being an extreme couponer! I only couponed for 2 months last year, and I STILL have shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, laundry soap, dish soap, and so much more that I got for FREE or got paid to take!).
This really isn't anything to worry about - it's just a really great opportunity for you to have all your ducks in a row when it's your turn to get your acceptance letter! :)

3 years!? I wouldnt start to worry yet, you will have plenty of time to worry in the future. Relax.
Thinking of it, I guess it is pretty silly to worry now. Thanks for putting it all in perspective. That's why I love this forum. :)
