Freaking out a bit...

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Alright, I'm taking my NCLEX in a few days (just got my ATT at the end of last week and signed up for day after tomorrow). I've just got off of my work rotation and started studying for the test, but my scores for the comprehensive test for my Kaplan book suck!

I am using the Kaplan book and the HESI review book to study (I've studied about ten hours today) and I was extremely discouraged to grade my comprehensive exam from the Kaplan book and discover that I only got a 68%. How are all of your scores in relation to this? I'm seriously hyperventilating and freaking out that I am not prepared. I know I should have had more time to study, but I've worked the past 6 days straight and legitimately haven't had the time. Test is Saturday at 8 AM. Should I cancel it? What percentage on the Kaplan scores indicate a good pass possibility? I appreciate all of your input! I know we are all having our anxiety attacks about this test. Best of luck to those taking it in the coming days. :)

Hey there! I'm in a similar situation to you so I wondering what everyone's advice is as well. Due to work and school schedules I haven't had as much time to study as some of my peers have and my test is Monday morning! I have been doing some practice tests from Saunders booms and two others...I believe one is lippincott...but they are either hit or miss and it is beginning to really worry me. I did not take the Kaplan review or any others because the money just isn't there but I just don't know what to do. This is really important to me and my family that I pass this and move on (as I'm sure it is for everyone else) and I'm just feeling lost. I'm sorry I was not able to offer any sound advice, but you definitely are not alone! The very best of luck to you!

I'm also taking mine monday!!! I'm pretty worried too. But I heard the allnurses study guide really helps. It helped me reinforce what I know, and is a little confidence booster lol https://allnurses.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8687&d=1310076980.

We got this!!

i did the kaplan review course a couple of weeks ago at my school. my scores were similar to the op. the kaplan instructor told our class that we should strive for a 65% on the first three question trainer tests. for question trainer tests 407, we should try to get a 60%--getting a 60% equates to a 95% chance of passing nclex. the last 4 question trainer tests are all passing level questions. so you are really doing just fine!

I was in the same boat. I graduated May 18, started my new job as a GN five days later and really didn't have the time to study as much as I wanted to do. I did all of the Kaplan qtrainers, all of the qbanks, the AN study guide and read over my school lecture notes. I was going to cancel my date too because I wanted to put in more study time but friends and co-workers advised me to take it right away.

When we had our Kaplan review class, our instructor said to aim for 65% on the qbanks and the first five qtrainers and for the last two, aim for a 60%. My scores were: Q1 63, Q2 61, Q3 61, Q4 59, Q5 63, Q6 65, Q7 64. The highest that I got on my qbanks was a 72%. I took my exam yesterday and passed with 75 questions.

I think the key to the NCLEX is having a solid base of the fundamentals. If you understand the basics, then you should be able to work your way through the questions. Also, critical thinking and good judgement is important because thats what you are being tested on. My exam didnt have any material that I studied for. I had all types of diseases and meds that I never even seen or heard of. I would say focus on your lab values, infection control, prioritization and delegation. Go over your weak areas as well.

The NCLEX is one of the exams were you could be tested on anything. The questions are straight forward (not like Kaplan) but the answers are tricky. Kaplan is a good indicator, but as you can see, I only got up to a 65% on only one of my Kaplan qtrainers. Dont let your scores discourage you. You graduated from nursing school so you have the knowledge! :-) I wish you the best of luck.

I took my NCLEX this morning. 75 questions in 23 minutes. Just did the PVT and got the good pop up!! I'm so excited!!! :D
