Former traveling nurses?

Published

Anyone here that is currently in a CRNA program or looking to apply a traveling nurse? I heard they take that into consideration. Would anyonereccommend it?

You can spin anything in an interview to look good.

For example, bad grades in your BSN program? No problem. Just tell them you've learned since then and that you weren't doing your best at the time because you were just focused on passing and hadn't considered needing a high GPA for CRNA school at the time.

Same thing for travel nursing. Some schools might not like it because you aren't grounded.

I had 5 years of ICU experience, about 1 year of that was travel experience, when I applied, interviewed, and got into CRNA school. They asked me about it and that was my time to shine. I emphasized that traveling was what worked best for me at the time (I was not yet married to my husband, who was in the military and traveling offered me the flexibility I needed at the time). I emphasized that I learned to adapt quickly (you only get 24 hours of floor orientation), improvise, and not sweat the small stuff while offering completely competent ICU care to my patients. I emphasized that a lot of time I had to work in units where travelers were not well appreciated due to the pay difference, but I never took it personally and still made friends and did my job. I also emphasized how every unit had specific ways of doing things (ie folding a draw sheet) and I would do my best to accommodate their preferences, because in the end it doesn't really matter how things get done, as long as every thing is done correctly.
