Hey guys, I need some advice. I'm a 41 year old RN who spent 6 years on active duty as a Corpsman prior to nursing school. I've recently been strongly considering returning to service via a commission with the Army National Guard. I have my BSN, would like to add to my retirement options, and I miss the military life. My problem is when I was homorably discharged, I screwed up,my shoulder and knee and was given a 40% disability rating. My recruiter told me with that being the case, if have to be cleared by my local MEPS station and go through the medical waiver process. I've also heard that I need to be at 30% rating or below to even be considered, so I'd need to be reevaluatd to get it dropped.
Has anyone had any experience with having a service connected disability and pursuing a return to some sort of military service? My recruiter is going to research it further, but I'd like to get as much input as I can. Is my hope of getting a commission as an RN a pipe dream, or is it possible?
Thanks in advance,
lasarazen
