forgetfulness and work anxiety

Nurses Stress 101

Published

I am having anxiety the night before I go to work. I find it hard to fall asleep. I have brain fog the first 3 hours of the day. I have made a few mistakes. What is wrong with me? I am also burned out. I work in ICU. I want to quit but need to keep working. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi. I just read your other post- that stated you need to work 2 and 1/2 more years. I think just the action of making some type of move will start to make you feel better. If you are staying in your current position and aren't happy, things aren't going to change unless you do something about it. I would start looking at Indeed- or one of the job searches - everyday. Make a goal of putting in one application a week. Just the act of doing something - however small, may pull you out of your funk.

You could do home care, case management, utilization review, call center, etc...

Thank you so much! I have appliied for the first position and also asked to cut my hours back for now. I will keep applying. Maybe I can find something to look forward to going to.

You answered your own question actually - you are burned out - you know it and it's taking it's toll. Good idea to ask for your hours

to be cut and to look for something else. Being proactive to change your situation alone will help you feel less anxious I would think.

Hopefully you will get some immediate relief working less hours and find something else in the mean time. Life is too short to spend

chronically upset - I speak from experience! Good luck!

I hope it works out! If I had 2 1/2 years left, I'd be doing hopscotch on the way to work!

You are too funny!
