For those who went to CRNA school with < 3 years experience

Published

I have been thinking about CRNA school for a while now. I currently work in a Neuro ICU. I am on my way to complete my BSN. MY question is, for those of you who went to CRNA school with little experience how did you feel? Does CRNA school mostly want you to know the ins and outs of working in an ICU environment or does it want disease specific knowledge. I have heard that CRNA school wants you to understand hemodynamics, vasoactive gtts, vents, Swans, etc. and how they act on the body. Just wanting some info from those who have been in my situation. By the time I would be ready to go to CRNA school I would have approx. 2-3 years of experience. Thanks!

As you probably already know most schools say minimum 1-2 yrs. so that means you are good with that. My class has a range of 1.5 to 9yrs with probably a mean of over 4yrs of experience. I think that it is really the type of experience that you have in combination with length of time. Having a solid foundation of your knowledge of what goes on in the ICU may be assessed during the interview. Sure you can read about all these things but if you are not where you are getting the chance to clinically apply them, then really what is your experience worth. Also looking for a someone that can survive the program academically as well.
