For those of us who cannot find work...

Do you think that hospitals will be willing to bend the rules next year with their new grad residency/internship programs because of the economy?

I don't think I will be working within 6 months, and most of the places I see have requirements that include "must have graduated within 6 months" type of deal in order to be able to take part in that orientation.

Are you really going to be able to wait six months without working? In my experience doing something, anything, as a nurse even if its not your first choice of a job is better than not working at all from a prospective employer's view. Unless I didn't need to work I'd seriously consider moving to an area with more opportunities if there truly weren't any jobs to be had. Good luck.

I have applied to 50 jobs in 4 states...not one interview. I am just extremely discouraged.

I'm so sorry to hear that but please don't give up. Maybe if you post your genearl area and the way you are applying, the positions you have applied for etc. folks here can offer suggestions to help you.

I am wishing you luck. My hospital is going to be hiring a some new graduates. My manager was discussing this with us the other night. She said they don't have as many jobs as in the past, but they do have some positions so for us to be expecting some brand new grads in May. Just thought I would share my tidbit so you know there ARE some places out there and maybe you'll stumble upon one very soon!!

IvyIV, I agree with Jules A. Please don't give up. I had twice as much applications as you have. I had three job offers, but they were contingent on how much money they could spare. In the end, they decided not to bring me on board. Fortunately, just this week, I have stumbled on something that's promising. I'm crossing my fingers that everything will work out.

I know you're doing you're best. I wish you luck. One of these days, you'll have you're chance.

Sending positive thoughts you're way,

Stella

Hey...Hang in there  I went through the same thing. I have applied to over 60 jobs and only got one interview. I graduated last April and just landed a new grad internship position. I know you'll find something. I am having to move out of state, but I think that it is worth it. Also, just my :twocents: but I think that if you have been out of school for a while you should really seek a position that has a good orientation program. Find any new grad residency/internship program that you can. I only saw a few that required you to have graduated in the last six months. Don't lose hope, there is a perfect job out there for you :wink2: Just keep reviewing the things you learned in school and you'll be fine :nurse: Good Luck!
