Foot Care Nurse B.C.

I am a LPN that is working self-employed as a Certified Foot Care Nurse in the province of B.C. I was wondering if other provinces and states have to have a doctors prescription to provide foot care to their clients in the community?? Has something to do with our Scope of Practice???

You might want to ask the mods to move this to the Canadian Forum.

I do know that LPNs require a post grad course to work in footcare in Alberta. It's usually done by the VON and then the specialty tag is added to the practice permit. This is for above and beyond basic foot/nail care covered in the training at college. Usually involve dremels (?) and pretty narly feet. They usually work in clinics or geriatric day programmes.

Any kind of this type of work for Nurses exists in the States and is licensed and regulated by our nursing boards in the US?

There is no requirement in BC to have a Rx from an MD to perform foot care. There is however a Rx required if you are an LPN who is billing Veterans Affairs for services and/ or if the client will be submitting the bill from you to their medical plan for reimbursement.

There is no Rx required if you are an RN.
