FNP restrictions in Texas

Good evening everyone! I apologize if this question is worded incorrectly or if this is the wrong forum. I just recently moved to Texas and will be pursuing my nursing degree in the near future. My intent/goal is to earn my MSN (maybe DNP someday) and become a dual role FNP/AGACNP. My question is for those who currently live and practice in Texas and what it's like? I see that Texas is one of the states that still places restrictions on NP's and require physician oversight. How does it feel to practice with restrictions? Do physicians still give a decent amount of autonomy in your experience or are you micromanaged? Any help and additional insight would be greatly appreciated. Take care!

I could talk to you for hours on end about this topic. I'm a NP in Texas. I work in the hospital and I own my own clinic.

I've built a lot of trust from the docs I work with. I can tell you, in the hospital, I don't even see my attending when I round.

In my clinic, the doc and I go out to lunch once a month, he signs my charts, and that's it. He doesn't even come to my clinic.

To the contrary, I've also had one doc at my old job who would breathe down your back no matter how good you were. If you can build trust with your oversight, you can have all the autonomy you want for the most part.

First off, thank you for taking the time to respond. I think in my heart of hearts I kind of knew that it would be physician dependent and if you've proven you're trustworthy they'll give you autonomy. I'm hoping that I can convince my wife to want to stay in Texas after this assignment is up so I can earn my nursing degree and ultimately become an NP here.

I worked in family practice for six years with a solo MD/practice owner. Here is how my days went:

Arrive at work, review my labs, see my patients all day. Leave at 6. On a normal day I would see the MD once--at lunch or perhaps in the hallway in between patients. If I had a question or needed a consult he was always available. But otherwise he left me alone, I did my own thing and there were absolutely zero restrictions that I encountered.
