hey guys!i'm currently in pa looking to apply for the spring 2011 class (msn: fnp) at duke. i'm really interested in any info i can get regarding the program and the rtp area. i plan on moving to raleigh in dec. 2010 and also finding an rn job there. thanks in advance!!!
raleigh is a great area. i currently live in raleigh, specifically north hills. there are many areas of raleigh that are great to live: downtown glenwood, north hills, cameron village and so on. it all depends on how much you want to spend. i live in the upper price range for a place but the amenities are worth it and i moved from charleston where the prices were about the same. i pay about $900 for a 800 sq ft 1 br 1 bath before utilities (utilities are pretty cheap though). but i live above shops and in the mall. on the other hand you can get places for like 500 a month around the area as well. some people like durham, where duke is, i would not live there at all. i went to unc chapel hill and that area is great as well. chapel hill is more pricey than raleigh though. let me know if you have any specific questions- i'd be glad to help out!

thanks so much for ur reply chuck. i visited the area in late november. i was impressed w the atmosphere and the ppl in raleigh. however i recently heard that nurses in the area have a low salary compared to the rest of the nation. to me money is not a huge factor but it is important bc i want to make sure i can find a good job and live comfortably while completing my masters.
the places i saw in the brier creek n sorrounding area were about 800-900 for 2bedrooms. is the north hills area close 2that in location?
No Problem! Brier Creek is in North Raleigh and is a good location- As well as being a lot closer to Duke for school! They have a great shopping center there too. North Hills is right on the 440 beltline so you will find that everything gets more expensive once in the beltline (aka closer to downtown). RN salary is still comfortable here I would say. Im sure the cost of living is quite lower than in PA but you may want to check out http://swz.salary.com/CostofLivingWizard/layoutscripts/coll_start.asp . I work at both WakeMed and UNC, Duke is the lowest paying of the three area hospitals but they dont have a hard time attracting employees. I love working at WakeMed, really laid back and they have great morale. UNC is a good place too, however parking is absolutely horrible. You have to park and use public transportation, which adds an additional 20 min on to your commute. Where were you looking at working?
ok good! i was told that area was closer! my friend told me to look into Duke. she said they had awesome benefits etc. *mind u she lives here in PA with me* hehe However, i've been reading online that wake is the best choice. I will be a new grad..so i don't know. i also read that wake only takes new grads startin in July is that true?! i hope not because i am lookin to move mid to late december. as an employee there. what can u tell me
That website u gave me is amazing!! ty
