I'm an RN in Texas, but currently (and for the next few years, at a minimum) live outside of the state. I am interested in a few FNP online programs from Texas based schools. I am also a veteran, and would be using the Hazelwood Act ("free" tuition at Texas schools). Would obtaining my FNP from a Texas based school even be an option without residing in the state?

Many online programs have mandatory on campus meetings once or twice a semester -- so make sure if the schools that you are interested in have such meetings and if so would you be able to attend.
Also you need to verify that they have a policy in place that would allow you to do the leg work to set up contracts with the providers that you are going to be precepting with... if you can meet these requirements then you should be golden.
best of luck.
