Hello

So finally, I completed practicum and was awarded my degree. I have also submitted an application to the ANCC and the AANP. My problem is, I don't know what to expect on the exams.

Currently I am studying the LEIK and Fitzgerald review books. In addition I try to complete 100 questions per day. Also, I paid for the LEIK webinar review course. My mind is all over the place, and I feel like I am studying the wrong topics or ... too many topics!

Any advice or study tips will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! I use FNP Mastery which is really good at breaking down the practice exams and quizzes by topic. This app also gives the rationale to right and wrong answers.

I also use:

FNP exam pocket prep (Fitzgerald questions), FNP Q&A (These are the same questions in the Leik book). Nonetheless, I like the fact that the topics are categorized and that you can pinpoint weak areas and receive detailed rationales.

Other APPS:

AGNP Q&A, Medical- Surgical Q&A, GNC Q&A, FNP nursing,

Go to the APP store and you will find many more!

Good luck to you as well!

PASSED THE AANP!

If you are still completing your practicum PAY ATTENTION! I answered quite a few questions based on what I diagnosed and or treated during my practicum rotation.

I suggest studying for at least 3-6 months prior to whatever exam you choose to take. I say this because in the end you won't have to cram. The first three months, I was all over the place. I did not have a structured study plan.

I finished the FNP program on March 9, 2016 and applied for both exams that day. Shortly after, I completed an ANCC review that was included in my program – The presenter held a DNP-FNP –BC, NP-C. The presenter had actually written certification questions for the ANCC and AANP. Although I had been studying for several months, this review gave me a blue print.

A week before the cert exams, I completed the MUST TAKE online webinar with Maria Leik. This was a live webinar review course! I was able to stay in my pajamas with my homemade coffee during this four-day review. Maria does an EXCELLENT job with covering Health promotion, the systems, OB, PEDS, and a separate session for the non-clinical topics. In addition, Maria answers questions daily at the end of each review class. Students who had previously taken the exams and failed posed several questions. I was able to gather additional information by listening to the other student's concerns and or questions.

Study Tools:

Leik 4th edition – READ the entire book and complete all the questions in the back of the book. Pay very close attention to the exam tips. In addition, purchase the FNP Q&A app- complete all the questions.

ANCC 4th edition review books Volumes I and II – Complete all questions

ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner Review Course Workbook and slides- provided by the ANCC review course.

AANP practice exam from the AANP website- I actually saw 1 question on my exam from the practice exam. I guess someone forgot to retire that one (smile). Scored an 86 %. two days before I tested.

ANCC practice exams on the ANA website. There is also a new Family Nurse Practitioner IQ” module for purchase on the ANA-Knowledge Center site. The module has questions specific to the domains one is required to pass on the actual exam.

Complete the free questions on the ANCC website that pertain to Geriatrics, Adult, and FNP.

Exam edge- 10 ANCC exams and 2 AANP exams- complete all the exams

APEA predictor examines – Believe it or not, I scored a 65 % on this particular exam the day before I took the AANP. The questions were not so similar to the exam.

Barkley DRT- Questions were similar to the exam- I scored an 89 % the day before the exam.

I will likely sit for the ANCC in a few weeks. Just enjoying the moment right now! The AANP has already issued my wallet card! My state actually accepts the wallet card for licensing! My application is in the mail!

Good Luck AND BLESSINGS!!

What material did you use to study theories laws ethics and cultural?

I just passed my ANCC FNP exam today! Such a relief! I told myself I would post if I passed bc I looked on here so many times for study guidance!

First off, I have been out of practice since I had my son almost 3 years ago and I graduated from my FNP program in May 2015, so if I can pass, so can you! And, last week my wild toddler missed 4 days of preschool bc he was sick and then I got sick... nightmare!

I studied for a total of 3 weeks. About 4 hours a day. Some days less and the last few days before the test about 6-8 hours a day.

I listened to Barkley's CDs in the car but only got through about 3 of the 19 (i don't do too much driving).

I did the practice questions on the ANCC website. I took the FNP exam but also practiced the peds, geriatric, and acute care questions from the ANCC practice questions.

Main study source was Board Vitals. I did aaaalllll 1900 questions! Flagged the ones I didn't know. Read through all the rationales, which are great! Did the flagged ones again and made flash cards. Didn't really study the flashcards but writing them helped me learn. Repeated questions in subject areas I knew were my weak areas and did random tests all the time, reading the rationales as I went. By 3-4 days before the test I was getting in the upper 80s on the tests, but I was also becoming familiar with the questions bc I had done them all before. Also, tons of questions on professional practice and research to help you prep for the almost 50% that isn't clinical!

2 days before the test I took a Barkley DRT. I was not really a fan of the questions and disagreed with the answers. Also got a 66%

2 days before I also did 2 Exam Edge tests and just passed them. They were OK but also didn't like some of the questions and didn't agree with the rationales.

1 Day before I discovered APEA and bought a 3 pack of quizzes. I thought that some of these questions were repeated on the ANCC exam. I really liked these questions and thought they were like the tests. I took a predictor test the night before the exam and got an 81% which gave me confidence. Cons: On the predictor tests you can only review the rationales for the questions you got wrong at the end of the exam and once you are done reviewing the incorrect questions and close the window, you can't go back. For the quizzes, you get the rationales for each question as you answer them but once you move on to the next question you can never go back to the previous questions.

Test- I used the strike out function a lot. Most questions you can definitely eliminate 2 answers right away. Like other people said, it was about 50/50 clinical and research/professional practice. Know asthma and hierarchy of research. The questions that made you select more than one answer said "select 3" or "select 2" which was nice.

Overall, I thought it was worth it to invest in board vitals (i did a month of unlimited) and APEA tests and quizzes!

Did anyone Pass without taking a review course? If you took a review course: Leik VS Fitzgerald? Thanks!
