Florida Hospital Emergency Dept Nurse Internship Program

Published

Wondering if any of you out there have participated in this Florida Hospital ED program?

I am an experienced RN-BSN who is transitioning from another specialty. I interviewed with the ED Nurse Manager last week who said I would be a good candidate for this program (I'm all for it). I got a call yesterday with an appointment to interview with the EDNIP Nurse Educator in a few weeks too. Any clue how this interview might be different than the interview with the Nurse Manager? Looking for any feedback on the program itself too.

No one?? My interview is this week and I'm hoping that it goes well.

How did it go? If you don't mind me asking, what type of experience do you have. ED is a specialty I'm interested in and I actually applied for the EDNIP at FL hospital but they never called me, perhaps because I only have 1 year med/surg experience.

First, let me say that I have been an RN for 13 years. I also have 2 years of past ED experience. The issue is that I have been working in specialty pharmacy UM for close to 9 years. That means I have not had a direct patient care role in quite a while. Knowing this would be an issue, I took an RN refresher, IV Certification, BLS and ACLS to make me more marketable. Unfortunately, the nurse educator said that it would be a stretch to go back into the ED as I had been out of it so long and that at this point, new grads would know more. Needless to say, I was so close and really bummed that it didn't work out. I have applied to 40 positions at FH over the last several months and have had no luck.

That is crazy! You showed initiative by getting those certifications and you have prior experience, regardless how long ago it was. I think that a new grad would cost them less. I've heard that Osceola Regional is always hiring, specially in their ED. It's not the best hospital In central Florida but it's worth a shot. You can work there for 6 months then try again at FL hospital?

My name is Jonathan and I was recently offered a new grad position in the ER department at Florida Hospital - Orlando for their Feb/March 2014 cohort.

I currently live in Los Angeles, CA and I am having a hard time finding a good place to relocate near the hospital.

The hospital address is 601 E Rollins St, Orlando, FL 32803.

Do any of you know a good place to live near the hospital or is anyone else from out of state that is in the same position that I am?

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks again!
