Florida Community College @ Jacksonville LPN Course???

Published

Hi Everyone!!! :rotfl:

I was wondering if anyone has taken the LPN courses at FCCJ. Are the instructors helpful? What about the RN bridge option (for future reference)?

This is such a huge decision and once it's made, I have to stick to it. So, I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into.

I'm applying for the Spring term (deadline is Oct.), so the first step is to get all the p/w together so I can apply. All I have to do really is take the TABE. Right now, for Fall term, I'm taking classes so in the future I could apply for the RN bridge option... just need to get my foot in the door and start to work, that's why I'm applying for the LPN program now.

:yeah: Any feedback is welcomed.

I have a former coworker that did the LPN program at FCCJ a year or so ago and loved it. I know she went to work at Shand's and planned on doing the bridge option but I don't know if she has done it yet. I am starting the RN program on Monday so I don't have any first hand knowledge of the instructors yet. Everyone that I have encountered at the campus has had good things to say about the instuctors so far. I haven't heard any of the "don't take xxx" , "avoid xxx at all costs" type things that I have heard about some non-nursing teachers in the past.

What classes and instructors are you signed up for fall term?

Wow!!! Monday? Are you nervous? You'll have to keep me posted on how things go, especially your first day...

I took three classes over the summer, all online. It wasn't too bad. A little overwhelming at first, trying to get all the classes straight as far as what they expect and all. Now it's almost over and I finally have them straight... figures.

Anyways... I have four online classes for Fall (might be in over my head this time). I'm taking A&P II, CHM for Liberal Arts (to prepare for Microbiology), Eng Comp I (I've been avoiding this one), and College Algebra (had to take Int. Math first, didn't score too well on the CPT). So, if I do the LPN bridge option all I have is Microbiology, Human Growth & Dev, and Intro to Sociology and I can take all of these in a semester, so that's no biggie. I've already taken A&P I (you probably know that, but it sounds good to say, don't it?) and Humanities. I think my Psychology is covered but I have to double check and make sure, if I have to, I can still take it at the same time as the others. The LPN bridge options says you need to be an LPN for six months before you apply for this program... so that should be plenty of time to finish up my remaining classes.

How does your friend like working at Shands? That's where I want to work also. Dive right in. It's one of the few hospitals here in Jax that hires LPNs, I'm finding out.

Well, I won't "talk your ear off," because I can, so, I'll cut this short. Good luck with your program and let me know how things go. I could use a good informant/mentor, if you don't mind, of course.

Take care and by the way thanks for responding so quickly.

Hey,

I am a nursing student at FCCJ. My only advice is that you should ask lots of questions about the avaliability of the LPN-RN program b.c I have a girl in my class who was an LPN but chose to do the RN program b.c she was not sure they would have the LPN-RN program. It depends if they have enough people any given term. Good Luck

How is getting into their program there?
