Hey;I'm a CNA and I was wondering if it's a good idea to apply for a float pool position at a rather large hospital. I don't have any hospital experience, so I thought it might be better to try for a position in a specific unit first. For those of you in the know, would you say a float position is more challenging? Would you mind listing some positives/negatives of such a position? Finally, would you recommend applying for it or not? Thank you SO much for any and all feedback!-Katie :nuke:

The only downside I can think of is that you are going from unit to unit, and it becomes hard to know what the nurses and other aides are expected to do and expect from themselves. It will take you sometime to know which floor does vitals at the beginning of shift or the end, stuff like that. But at the same time, you get to experience different units and see new things.

I thought I would want to do Ortho or Neuro...and it ended up being that I really loved Med/Surg and Critical Care...I have been in Critical Care now for 9 years, and without float pool I would have never known!It is hard to float from floor to floor, not knowing who you're working with and finding what you need, what is expected of you...but YES, you definitely do avoid all teh drama! lolGood luck to you! I really liked it...can't hurt to try it out!
