FIU Nursing admission requirements

Nursing Students General Students

Hi, I am currently a student at UCF. I had a life-changing event this spring semester, and unfortunately I had to withdraw from Human Anatomy and I received an NC for Chemistry. However, I received a C in the Chemistry lab, but that is unacceptable at UCF and I will have to retake it.

I am looking into the possibility of transferring from UCF to FIU. But, I felt a little discouraged when I read this on their nursing admission requirements:

  • No repeats in required science courses because of failure (C- or below) and all science courses completed within the past 10 years.
  • Successfully complete HESI - A2 exam

I am looking for more information of current FIU students on how this requirement may affect me and the possibility of joining the nursing program there.

If I received an NC for Chem and a W in Anatomy is this considered failure and will this prevent me from getting accepted? Also, is receiving a C in chemistry lab acceptable? My current GPA is a 3.5. I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

I'm not familiar with FIU or their policies, but I think there are 2 things you could try.

First, some schools have a policy for 'special circumstance' that you could look for. For example, some colleges might be willing to remove bad grades/incompletes from a transcript for documented personal illness, or the illness/death of a family member.

Second, check with FIU's dept directly. Just give them a call, you don't have to tell them your name, but just ask about their policy. Or if you need more specific info, try talking to the nursing admissions coordinator, and give her a brief summary of your situation then ask what she thinks.
