Too bad I don’t have Facebook!

But is a good idea!

Hello everyone! I am thinking about becoming a CRNA and applying to FIU. To the accepted applicants, did you guys have extra science courses such as organic chemistry or biology?

Thanks! :)

Hi!

You have almost a year till the next deadline, so if you can take all the courses you can!

I took Chemistry (Inorganic, Organic and Biochemistry) in the last year. I also took Statistics. “A” in all of them. That will help. I believe!

Hi! So for me, I first looked at all of the schools that were probable options for me to prioritize my plan of action. All CRNA schools vary in requirements for pre-reqs, “expirations” for pre-reqs, ICU experience, etc. FIU was my first choice, but I also completed things that would benefit and strengthen my applications for other schools in the event FIU did not work out. I obtained my CCRN, shadowed a lot of CRNAs on my days off in the OR to demonstrate my interest in understanding and learning the responsibilities of the CRNA (also GET A LETTER OF REC from one of the CRNAs you shadow to strengthen your application and highlight your interest and excitement about the profession). Most schools I was applying to wanted a recent statistics course (within 5 years of application deadline) so I retook Stats by itself to ensure I had plenty of time to earn an “A”. I already had chemistry courses and given the variation of chemistry requirements across the board I put that at the bottom of my list of things to “re-take” or pursue. Get involved at work— demonstrate that you’re an advocate for nursing and the profession. CRNAs face political challenges and they want to know you’re going to advocate for the profession— join shared governance if your unit or hospital has one, attend NTI, or conferences. They (FIU) wants a well-rounded person. Finally, most of my ICU experience is in the Cardiac-Medical ICU. I cross-trained and picked up a lot of overtime in CVICU to expose myself to that patient population which did two things: allowed me to become familiar with hemodynamics and more autonomy with the care of those cardiac-surgical patients and allowed me to SAVE MONEY for school. Financial planning is a BIG THING— they want to ensure you are prepared to pursue this endeavor and are ready to take on full time school and go back to living like an undergrad ??‍♀️Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK!

So excited to begin with you guys in January! Let me know if you make a Facebook group. I cant wait. Congratulations to everyone
