I am planning on attending grad school part time while also starting a new job. Would I be able to request a certain day of the week off in order to go to school (my class has a regular meeting time), or would I have to wait until after orientation to have any say in my schedule????

That's a question you should have asked before you accepted the job. You might not be able to request a specific day off each week even AFTER orientation. Maybe. Maybe not. That depends on the scheduling practices in that particular department. The only way to get your answer is to talk with your Manager/Director.

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. I was just wondering if it was possible to have some flexibility during orientations or if that isn't common. I haven't accepted a job, just going to be on the hunt soon and was curious. Thanks for the advice!

You can ALWAYS ask. They are just as likely to say yes as they are no, depending on the culture of the organization. If you DON'T ask you won't get... A lot will depend on how you word your request. If it comes across that you're using the unit as a stepping stone to something else, that might no go over too well. But if you emphasize the life-long-learning-making-you-a-better-nurse angle, you might be more successful.
