First test blues................

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Just took my first Test of the AASN nursing program.........79. I am so dissapointed, I studied so hard but this style of testing is unlike anything I have ever did before. Bye Bye black & white answers...............just had to whine a little. Thanks for listening.

I will be taking my first big exam on Monday, please say a word of prayer for me. I have looked at my NCLEX book and have studied all my chapters but I am not sure how much I have retained.

I understand the NCLEX style questions but I am not sure how this Instructor sets her questions. She told us to look at the objectives on the Syllabus but these objectives cover all the chapters which I have read twice.

 just feel very fearful, I want God to take away all my fears so please pray for me.

The first test of a new semester is always very humbling ... :chair:

Try not to kick yourself too much over it. You have to get used to the style of the instructor and what they look for on tests. You'll be getting lots more shots at it!

My best advice would be not to "memorize" the information like you would in other classes, understand it. Understand why you are assesing lung sounds and why you do each intervention that you do. They are testing your critical thinking skills and want you to know why you are doing things not just "if this happens do this". It takes a while to get used to, but you will get it. Get an NCLEX book that has the rational for the answer, it may be a little over your head in the begining but worth the practice.

Good luck to all you students! I was in you shoes just two years ago and just yesterday I accepted my first nursing job in L&D, keep your eye on the prize!!!:D
