First Semester of Nursing School

Okay, nothing profound to say here. Just want to say that I finished my first semester of my RN program today- AND I CAME OUT IN ONE PIECE! Very proud of my class mates and very thankful to have great (for the most part) instructors. I had a wonderful clinical location this semester with nurses who were happy to answer all the dumb questions and patiently walk me through the little things like pulling meds and piggy-backing IVs...Don't get me wrong, I haven't spoken to my friends in several months, and I don't remember the last time I got more than 7 hours of sleep or shaved my legs (:lol2:). I now know that I can start an IV, which works wonders for how "nursey" a person feels, haha... I worked my butt off, but I made it through, and I'm so excited to be one semester closer to being one of you.:nurse: Thanks for all the insight you've provided me into the field so far. Now I'm off to try to enjoy break because next semester will be here before I know it...

Congratulations!! In my opinion, the first semester is/was one of the hardest because of all the adjustments one needs to make. Pat on the back! Now prepare yourself for what lies ahead and take it one semester at a time! I'm going into my last one soon and it seems just like yesterday I started! Good luck with the rest!!

:w00t: We Did It!!! :w00t:

Today was my last my of this first semester!

I am so happy I passed, I was definitely on the chopping block!

Studying hard payed off

GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!! ENJOY THE BREAK

Any suggestions for a newbie? I will be entering my first semester of nursing in January. Are there any books or tools you recommend me buying that will help me? How did you get through it? I am so excited but nervous...everyone I speak to makes it seem IMPOSSIBLE! I know it's going to be a lot of work and a lot of dedication but will I understand the information given? How many hrs a week did you spend studying/doing hw? Any info/tips will greatly be appreciated! Thanks!!!

OH AND BTW CONGRATULATIONS! ! ! :bowingpur lol

lippincott's 3 minute assessments for your health assessment course. Includes how to PROPERLY document all normal findings and how to go about doing health assessments in general. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/SkillMasters/Lippincott-Williams-Wilkins/e/9781582558646?itm=2&usri=3+minute+assessments I would recommend getting it as a used book because otherwise you will go broke really fast!

and RN clinical pocket guide for just all around. It includes every lab data, normal disorders you will see, cultural, assessment, EVERYTHING! http://search.barnesandnoble.com/RN-Notes/Ehren-Myers/e/9780803623132?itm=1&usri=RN+clinical+pocket+guide

Some kind of Nursing Fundamentals Made Easy or for Dummies helps get to the bottom of that monster they call a fundamentals book.

Those links are to the Barnes and Noble site where I got mine.

As far as studying goes, I spent an obscene amount of time studying or doing homework. If you can imagine waking up way earlier than a normal person ever should, going to class or clinicals, then studying until you are passing out (and getting about 4 hours of sleep/night), then DREAMING about what you were just studying - you can imagine the first semester of nursing school. I was able to pass with 3 As and an A- so it paid off in the end. Good luck and enjoy!

Thank you so much for the information! I will definitely look into getting all that stuff. Thank God it's Christmas time and my fiance has been asking me for an xmas gift! Haha... I know what it's like to spend hours upon hours studying or doing homework. There are days I sat for 16 hrs straight doing work. It's not something I like to do, but I like getting good grades and understanding the information! I have a 2 yr old son, and a f/t job but no social life at ALL! My fiance and I never get to go out, our dates are on demand movies from comcast! He's in school as well, so he's very understanding!
