First Semester Nursing School: Advise Welcomed!

Published

Hello, Everyone! I just joined this site in hopes that it will be a very helpful resource. I just started my first semester of nursing school. I am 21, single, and have no children. I live with a roommate and currently work two part time jobs. Having both jobs is not exactly a necessity. It is just how things ended up happening. I am taking my first test in Health Promotions tomorrow morning and I am studying the best way I know how. The reason I created this topic is to ask for anyone willing to give me any advice about making it, studying, getting good grades, etc. I also would like to be assured that I am not the only one who has to maintain a job throughout nursing school. I'd like to hear that it is possible to work and pass school. I am a very strong willed and self disciplined person and I know it may not be easy. However, I'm not willing to accept that I cannot work and do nursing school at the same time. Please, someone tell me it's gonna be okay and that it's possible. I will take any and all advise very openly and take all of it into consideration.

:)

Sincerely, Amber

Hi Amber, wow, this is kinda difficult. I was working full time as a secretary/CNA in a telemetry unit of a hospital while on first semester Nursing program. I think you'd still be ok since first semester usually covers Fundamentals of Nursing. Are you taking any non-nursing classes? I ask because it may be a lil tougher but can be done. Since you are working part time only (assuming few hours per day), you can still focus on your lecture materials, assignments and care plans. Weekends were usually spent on reading lectures notes during that week. I retain info that well.

But you should be ok.

Good luck!
